White-metal pendant

Sheet silver pendant, diam. 3.5cm. Circular with repoussé ornament consisting of Greek Cross picked out with edging of repoussé dots, similar dots around rim, repoussé bosses with circle of dots around base at end of each cross arm, and slightly larger version in middle. Rather flimsy plain loop with triangular plate at front soldered to one of plain triangles between crosses. Loop now broken and description of position taken from drawing in Faussett's Diary [MS Diary, Liverpool], but it may have been that triangular piece soldered at back across one of bosses, and loop simply rolled over at front - this way cross could have hung correctly. Pendant now fixed onto wax and cannot be removed without damage.SCH repeats the mistake made on the Mayer Index card and gives this object the accession number M 6420, though the Gatty Slip information indicates that it should be M 6470. The object remains recorded in the National Museums Liverpool database as M 6420, but a note of the discrepancy has been made. – D.H.
