Silver-gilt bird appliqué, length 2.25cm. It has curved predator's beak, square head frame, round eye underlined, curving neck outlined and filled with hatched grooves, squared tail with vertical grooving, and outer border finishing in spiral at base of neck. Leg with pear-shaped hip, outlined, and 4-clawed foot. The whole has been gilded and grooves originally filled with niello, of which little survives. Openwork panel between neck and leg. Behind hip-joint is a single shank 2.5mm long, which once served to rivet bird to belt(?) or sword sheath(?).
