Gold tremissis with loop. St. Bertrand de Comminges, Haute Garonne. Weight 1.723 grammes.Obv.+ICONBENAS+ (FI) Diademed bust right, well marked hair and 2 pendants of diadem hanging behind. Cloak with circular brooch right shoulder.Rev. +NONNIT MONITARUS. 2 crude winged Victories facing one another holding tree, standing on exergual line.Well made corrugated loop soldered to rim. On central corrugation a pair of wires, made of 2 wires twisted together and laid side by side, flanked with thin beaded wires. Coin heavily worn, though part may be due to light striking; loop shows considerable wear. Gold a good orange colour. Loop visibly paler.The mint a city in Pyrenees destroyed totally in 585 by Guntram of Burgundy. Place does not appear again in written records till 11th century, but 7th century coins from same moneyer or his sons. Markedly Visigothic bust, hairstyle, and brooch on shoulder.
