Gold solidus with loop, weight 5.503 grammes. Frankish?Obv. +IVEGIO VICO. Facing bust of crude design, with double line of pellets representing the helmet, equal armed cross on breast and in field right, and a Latin cross in the field left. Plain raised border.Rev. +LVDVLFO(M)O ИITѦIIO. Nimbate rider wearing cloak, on galloping horse right. Similar border.Beaded gold wire border soldered in place, wire ends overlapping under loop. Corrugated loop, plain inside, outside 1 broad corrugation flanked by two narrower ones. Beading shows some wear around lower edges, esp. at sides. Coin slightly worn, but also lightly struck in one piece. Loop shows only very slight trace of wear. Good orange gold not visibly debased.Prototype a-follis of Justin I of facing bust type introduced in 538. Latin cross simplified version of globus cruciger in original. Visigothic influence shown by cross on breast, mid 3rd of 6th century. Rev. type possibly modelled on 'horseman' series of Gaulish coins from Rhone Valley. Mint possibly Ivoy-le-Pré (Cher), but not certainly.
