Sword: blade only length 81cm (32 inches). Substantial remains of a wooden sheath and under it clear evidence of a sheepskin lining - the texture very wavy, clotted, character of the fossilised remains is very reminiscent of long wool. The impression of the lower guard is unusually clear, and there are two lumps as of rivet heads visible. Tang broken off before burial.X-ray no. 4: not very distinct, but it appears to be a pattern welded blade with a core of 3 composite rods in standard pattern in double assembly - but trace of longitudinal lines, suggest filler rods between the main composite rods.
