Copper-alloy Roman key

online resource
posted on 2021-10-27, 07:45 authored by Helena HamerowHelena Hamerow
Bronze key, length 3.5cm. Oval openwork head, flat in section with pairs of roughly scratched grooves at intervals. The loop head is broken though Faussett senior shows it complete. The shank is short and straight, with right-angled ward with hole in angle underside and rectangular moulded end. Probably this hooked onto the key-ring(s) M 6725 or 6726 which were found with it by the right knee. Cf. Kingston grave 222 for parallel, key on ring with hook and loop catch.
